The godfather of grime Wiley, an artist who has a catalogue of music larger than most in the music industry, releases his brand new album ‘Evolve Or Be Extinct, with Big Dada Recordings.
Wiley tends to have three different types of music that he makes, it’s either that straight up eski-sounding grime (which he is of course known best for), more generic sounding club tracks like ‘Wearing My Rolex’, which he reached mainstream success with, or those tracks which can only be described as him just being Wiley. The interesting thing with this album however, is that it seems to be a mix of all three. Which in some cases is the best move Wiley could probably have made as he has given any one of his fans a reason to buy it.
If you’re a grime kid and it’s those tracks you’re looking for then you have tracks like ‘Evolve Or Be Extinct’, ‘Highs & Lows’ and ‘Ya Win Some, Ya Lose Some’. Although if it’s those mainstream tracks your fond of then you’ve got the club hit like ‘Boom Blast’ and if it’s the erratic mad man on YouTube and Ustream you like then there’s the comical tracks like ‘Immigration’ and ‘Weirdo’. Now because of this there’s going to be some tracks that’s not to everyone’s taste but a track listing of 22 songs you certainly have enough to choose from.
After listening to this album it becomes apparent that this release is just full of tracks that Wiley has made, simply because he wants to and that’s how he feels at the time and without the amount of artists trying to get a quick chart position these days, that’s something that, in our eyes, is due respect.
